Versatile
violinist and fiddler Paul Anastasio grew up in Bellingham, Washington, and
became fascinated with the violin at age 9. Originally classically trained, he
was soon drawn to popular music, playing in country and bluegrass bands and
winning a stack of trophies in old-time fiddle contests. His teachers included
Seattle Symphony Assistant Concertmaster Sergei Kardelian and renowned jazz
violinist Joe Venuti, who took Paul on as the only student ever taught at his
home in Seattle. He performs with his own group, Paul Anastasio and his Swing
Cats, and as a member of the group Pearl Django, which specializes in the music
of Django Reinhardt.
Paul has had a very successful fifteen year career in
the western swing and
|
|
country music fields, including lengthy stints in the bands
of Merle Haggard, Asleep at the Wheel, Larry Gatlin, and Loretta
Lynn. Once he had achieved his goal of playing in all fifty
states and eating in every truck stop in the known universe, he
retired from the road and returned to the Seattle area. Here,
our exceptionally talented crop of local musicians allows him to
perform in small combo settings in all of the musical genres he
loves - swing and traditional jazz, western swing, country,
old-time fiddle, bluegrass, and his first love, classical music.

consummate professionalism, good taste, and above all his love
