Andy Nevala - Jazz Pianist

The Colorado Scene
 
     Andy Nevala's "Waiting in the Alley" features a mix of original songs and arrangements covering Latin Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Straight Ahead, and Avant-Garde styles.
     Andy Nevala earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Boise State University in 1996, and a Master of Music Theory and Composition Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 2000. While at UNC he directed and performed in Combo's I and II, winning downbeat awards for Outstanding Performance by a College Combo and Best Blues/Pop/Rock Group winner, respectively.
     He has also directed Jazz Lab Band V and Combo IV, and has been an Assistant Director of the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival and an Administrative Assistant in the Jazz Studies Program at UNC.
     He also has performed in several UNC groups: Combo I, Lab Band I, Lab Band II, The Malonetones, Sus4, and Combo III. At UNC he has performed with Conrad Hertwig, Brian Lynch, Louis Bellson, Peter Erskine, and Pete Fountain, as well as opened for Kurt Elling, Russell Malone, Poncho Sanchez and McCoy Tyner.
     He currently is a member of Conjunto Colores, Voted Colorado's best Salsa and Latin jazz group for the past 4 years. The group has performed at the Aspen/Snowmass Jazz Festival, The Estes Park Jazz Festival, The Denver Millennium Celebration, and opened up for Arturo Sandoval and Diane Shurr at Red Rocks on June 10th, 2001.
